Duke Dumont- The Giver (The Reprise)

This music video demonstrates Jesus in a different light, starting as a healer, e.g. giving a bald man hair but surprisingly then gives a women a beard. Hinting that consequences to cures.
I like the setting of the music video, Jesus walking down a market place by a beach.
Even though their are similarities between the idea of Jesus and the one shown in the video, the image of him presents itself as the same as in the Bible. Also the characteristics this being helpful and calm. However the music video also subverts Jesus' archetype by the less wanted effects shown and the conflict shown, e.g. the money being uncontrollable released from the card machine and the police getting involved.

Duke Dumont- Won't Look Back

Theft is the major element shown in this music video, almost mimicking it. The humour is represented through the rubber masks used on the thefts, including Queen Elizabeth who is seen as the gang leader of the three of them. Again the setting goes from a market place street then through houses and a car park. Intertextuality is seen in the grease car race scene in the flood channel.
The powerful people's faces used on the masks shows how they are representing themselves as someone on the complete opposite lifestyle than the person behind the mask. The pogo stick is a major feature of the video, adding a humorous value as the criminals could just run which would be quicker.

Duke Dumont- I Got You ft. Jax Jones

This music video shows the realism of how people can be easily blinded by a fantasy and get lost in a idyllic world. It also highlights technology dependency in today's society and how its increase of improvements cause an almost addiction to the population of gamers.

I choose these as my three favourite past music videos from Duke Dumont because they all have a meaning whether this relates to real life society or just has a humorous effect. The music videos are not a typical love romance music video and the videos almost stretch the imagination of what was created, almost a random but unique idea. Additionally the artist himself, Duke Dumont does not feature in any of his music videos. The conventions of this choice would be a sense of how the artist is merging into the audience as well. His significance is shown through his music. This is a structure I want to follow within my music video, therefore I will not present a figure portraying Duke Dumont.

  1. Good research. How can you create a homage by referencing some of these ideas?
