Finders Keepers Music Video

Our project was to create a media video using an existing music video already. The video needed to demonstrate some of the conventions and elements we had learnt. We used the song 'Finders Keepers' who was sung by Mabel.

Evaluation
The camera shots show from in front and behind the girls presented, this creates a following effect which engages the viewer. We also included viewpoint shots which helps the viewer see through the eyes of the character, this adds a personal effect. Direct gaze is shown when the girls are walking towards the camera beside a road, the light occasionally catches their eyes this helps attract the viewers attention more.
The editing is shown through the changeover of shots from the two different girls presented at the beginning. We also started with a slow motion shot of the girl walking out of her house, we did this because it went along with the beat of the music.

The use of light is displayed throughout the video, at the beginning when the girls are in the dark street setting the street lights illuminate their faces, showing an angelic look signifying child innocence, the use of light glowing in their eyes as their faces come close to the camera however, gives off an eery sense, demonstrating the transition from childhood to teenage years. The light also highlights how the video is set at nighttime as it emphasises the street lights.
The mise-en-scene is shown through the setting which gives an urban atmosphere with the houses, streets and roads displayed. This type of area is a common place to live and therefore the viewer could relate to the people in the music video.

Alternative features are used when the artist is not shown in the music video and no one in the video appears to be singing the lyrics, which creates non-diegetic sound. The way in which the music video is set out is quite abstract because most music videos are recorded landscape, unlike ours which is portrait with a black background.
Our music video is mainly mainstream because it includes a typical setting and a typical choice of mine-en-scene with the setting of a gathering of people, it does not include many abstract features, for example the normal outfits and normal body language, this is shown when the teenagers are dancing.

The target audience for the original music video was young people, mainly older teenagers and young adults. We tried to widen this with younger teenagers, with the use of friendships instead of romance because this is more relatable to the younger age group.
The reason why we choose to include a storyline of two friends finding each other and becoming friends again was because it links with the name of the song, Finders Keepers, meaning a friendship can start again after a long time apart.

The media representation is demonstrated through teenagers making friends and having fun. The glimpse shots of partying shows the natural behaviour of teenagers.
The media context could be seen as children nowadays have more freedom to do things, such as leave the house and meet friends, especially girls as this used to be frowned upon.

Beneath is a re-edited version of our improved music video. We decided to change some of the transitions from each clip so it linked better with the music. The main clip transition change was done to the boy dancing solo, making his actions go along with the beat better. The clips of the girls walking was improved making the transition slower to fit the pace of the video.

  1. A great response and the brief changes make a difference. Try to keep things very visual. See what presentation software might help you do this. Ms Page
